About the Artist

Tess Meredith Hardy is a well established artist specialising in animal and child portraiture. Her ability to capture the essence and personality of her subjects comes not only from her artistic skill but also her love and personal experience of animals and children.

Tess trained for a year at Charles H. Cecil studios – it was here, in Florence that she truly recognized the importance of observing and understanding the human figure from life. To capture a character, whether it be human, canine or equine and the necessity to study them from life, became an imperative and key aspect of Tess’s artistic development.

Having grown up in the countryside of Warwickshire and surrounded by dogs and horses from an early age, Tess’s natural understanding of their magnificent form is realised in her work, from their delicate yet pronounced muscle to their perfectly constructed heads.

The underlying theme of Tess’s work is to portray the subjects’ character and individuality through her chosen medium. Working in charcoal, and predominantly pastel, her work is grounded in the ethos of the old masters but with an individual and unique style of her own.
